LaFO has launched in July 2014 a new programme to empower economically the pastoralists women in Fantalle districts. The project aims to enhance the livelihoods of 34 women identified as poor/vulnerable and excluded in Fantalle Woreda (Awash) through a programme that would empower them economically and socially.

Last week Labata Fantalle was lucky enough to receive a visit from Craig Owen, the Programme Manager of Wales Africa Community Links Network. The Wales Africa initiative is a movement for change; involving local people and communities in making poverty history through inspiring, practical action.

On September 25th Labata Fantalle Cymru in partnership with Edible Landscaping ran a brilliant Pick, Cook and Feast event to raise funds to help develop the Galcha community training and demonstration garden in Ethiopia.

Members of the Karrayyu community, recently attended a Cheese festival in Italy. The trip was organised and sponsored by Slow Food, a global organisation founded to counter the rise of fast food, fast life and the disappearance of local food traditions.

We have had some brilliant news! Due to the urgency of the situation in Fantalle woreda PROtector Treatment Systems has selected Labata Fantalle as their next priority project. They will assist us to install a hand operated PROtector water treatment system for members of the local community.

Labata Fantalle recently held the first Karrayyu community Permaculture training led by Tichafa Makovere, a Permaculture trainer with over 15 years experience and the founding director of Shumba Integrated Eco Designs.
